NGAL is a microbial protein expressed by neutrophils and certain epithelial cells such as renal tubules, which consisting of a polypeptide chain with a molecular weight of about 25,000. NGAL was first identified as a new early diagnostic marker for acute kidney injury (AKI) in the field of nephropathy. In recent years, it has been found that chronic kidney disease (CKD) and NGAL in secondary kidney disease also have diagnostic and early warning significance. In addition, serum NGAL is elevated in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), atherosclerotic plaque-related diseases such as myocardial infarction, acute atherosclerotic cerebrovascular disease.
The HIGHTOP NGAL along with the HIGHTOP HTY-100 PLUS Reader is a fluorescence immunoassay that quantifies the total Neutrophil Gelatinase Associated(NGAL) concentration in human serum.
